Wrongful Death Suit Settled for $1.4 Million

February 2012 - Our client was a married father with three children who had just begun a new job. He was riding a motorcycle to work one morning when a city bus pulled out in front of him. The man was struck by the bus and died from his injuries. We filed suit against the bus driver for failing to stop at the stop sign and against the City of Columbia. This case was settled for $1.4 Million.

Police Brutality Case Settled for $250,000

December 2011 - Columbia Police Department arrested our client. During the arrest, the officers used Pepper Spray on him. Once in the police holding cell, our client was trying to get the attention of the officers so he could clean the Pepper Spray out of his eyes. The sink in the holding cell was turned off and there was no intercom system. Our client banged on the cell door a couple of times and yelled for the officers to turn on the water. Our client stood defenseless and unable to see as police officers entered the cell and violently shoved him against a concrete wall. Our client sustained a compression fracture of the T12 and a head injury. He was restrained to the floor of the holding cell and left there. This case was settled for $250,000.00.

Wrongful Death Suit Awards $1.4 Million

November 2007 - Two brothers and their wives were traveling in rural Lewis County, northeast Missouri, returning home from a vacation in Michigan. The vehicle they were following improperly stopped at a flashing yellow light. Our client slowed their van and was struck from behind by a truck following them. The impact killed both women instantly, as they were riding in the back seat. This case was settled with the trucking company for $1,405,000 and with the insurance company, of the driver who improperly stopped, for $50,000. This amount was split evenly between both brothers.

Head on Collision with Drunk Driver Awarded $1.4 Million

Bar Pays $1 Million for Serving Minor

January 2011 - An underage college student was served alcohol at a bar. The consumption of alcohol resulted in our client falling causing serious physical injury. This case was settled for policy limits of $1,000,000.

One Vehicle Accident Wins $1 Million Verdict

October 2000 - Two friends met up at a party and left together. A one-vehicle accident occurred ejecting both occupants. There were no witnesses and each other claimed the other was driving. After trial, the jury showed no fault to our client and awarded a $1,000,000 verdict.

Trucking Company Pays $900,000 to Settle Claim

August 2009 - On Highway 24, in Monroe County Missouri, our client was traveling westbound when she decided to pass two vehicles in front of her. While in the passing lane, a tractor-trailer moved into her lane, to pass the vehicle in front of it, forcing our client off the road and into a culvert. Our client suffered from a fractured spine, rib and sternum. The trucking company agreed to pay $900,000 to settle the claim.

Passenger in Over-turned Car on I-70 Reaches $802,000 Settlement

August 2008 - Our client was a passenger in his "soon to be" step brothers car. They were traveling on I-70 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a rock embankment and overturned, landing in the passing lane. The driver escaped but our client was trapped inside the car. Another vehicle traveling on I-70, in the passing lane, came up on the over-turned car and applied his brakes, in turn causing him to be rear-ended by a tractor-trailer. This caused his car to crash into the overturned car that still had our client in it. Our client was treated for facial lacerations and a T12 burst fracture. A settlement totaling $802,500 was agreed upon by all parties outside of court.

Personal Injury & Wrongful Death Suit Settled for $695,000

July 2001- Our client and her husband were passengers in a vehicle, driven by her brother-in-law. They were struck head on by a motorist who crossed the center line. Our clients' husband was pronounced dead at the scene and she suffered internal injuries. The wrongful death and personal injury claim was settled for policy limits totaling $695,000.

Truck Loses Tools on Highway Causing Accident Reaches $535,000 Settlement

February 2004- A suit was filed for injuries our client received when the van she was a passenger in struck tools and equipment in the roadway. A trailer, being pulled by a construction truck, unhitched from the truck and scattered tools along the highway. Our client struck the equipment and suffered a broken pelvis and ankle, a cervical fracture, tracheostomy and chronic respiratory failure, a left clavicle fracture and a sub arachnoid hemorrhage in her right temporal area. This case was settled, prior to trial, for $535,000.

Slip and Fall Case Settled for $450,000

January 2009 - A pedestrian slips and falls on icy sidewalk in front of a large retailer resulting in a fractured ankle. This case settled for $450,000.

Worker Trips on the Job Awarded $250,000

July 2005 - A worker trips, on the job, in a walk-in freezer causing them to fall onto a box which resulted in internal injuries.

Workers Compensation Claim Settled for $208,000

December 2005 - A construction worker was injured during the demolition of a cinder block wall. The wall fell and fractured the ankle of the worker. This case was settled outside of court for $208,000.

Worker Injured at Concrete Plant Receives $200,000 Settlement

January 2008 - A worker at a concrete plant fractured his neck. He was awarded a $200,000 settlement.

$130,000 Awarded for Excessive Force by Police

April 2011- The police were called to respond to our clients' house after an argument with her husband. Our client had left the house prior to the officers' arrival and went for a walk. She was approached by 3 Columbia Police Department officers who asked if she was okay. When she responded, "yes" the officer's drove away. One officer returned and asked her to get in the patrol car. She declined and said that she would rather walk. Our client stated the officer attacked her without cause and used excessive force to arrest her resulting in a broken arm that required surgery to repair. A U.S. District Court Judge made judgment in the amount of $130,000 to our client for her medical expenses.
