Pedestrian accidents: 45-year-old man dies after being hit by car

Because pedestrians are not likely to wear protective clothing, the results are often devastating when pedestrians are struck by cars. The impact of vehicles hitting pedestrians, even if the vehicle is moving at a low speed, can cause catastrophic injuries or even deaths in pedestrian accidents. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a fatal pedestrian accident is currently under investigation.

An accident report indicates that a pedestrian was walking along N Highway in Cape Girardeau County on the evening of a recent Thursday. Under undisclosed circumstances, a 29-year-old driver of a pickup truck hit a 45-year-old pedestrian. The pedestrian lost his life, and he was pronounced dead by the coroner. He was identified as a resident of Advance.

The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured. No further details related to possible impairment or charges were reported. The MSHP mentioned that this crash brought the total of fatal accidents in Southeast Missouri in 2015 to 52.

Although grief after the losses of loved ones in pedestrian accidents can be overwhelming, the surviving family members may pursue recovery of damages by filing wrongful death claims in a Missouri civil court. After negligence has been established, a court may consider awarding financial relief for several documented losses. While end-of-life expenses will form part of the immediate need, the loss of income from a deceased spouse who may have been the bread winner may also cause financial difficulties. Non-financial damages may also be claimed, such as the loss of companionship, love and support that are irreplaceable qualities that will be forever lost.
