Missouri car accidents: Crash claims 1 life, injures 2

Drivers in Missouri are responsible for driving safely in all conditions. Many car accidents occur in adverse weather conditions, but drivers are still required to adapt to the prevailing circumstances. During a downpour of rain on a recent Thursday morning, a fatal crash occurred on Missouri 5 not far from Lebanon.

An accident report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that a 56-year-old Camdenton man was northbound on a rain-covered Missouri 5. It is believed that the wetness of the road caused him to lose control of his vehicle, causing it to cross into the southbound traffic lanes. He smashed into an oncoming car and continued sliding out of control. His car then slammed into another southbound vehicle.

The driver who lost control was killed, and the 52-year-old Lebanon driver of the second car suffered serious injuries. The third driver -- a 67-year-old woman from Sunrise Beach -- suffered moderate injuries. Both these drivers were transported to a hospital. Authorities said all three drivers were buckled into their safety belts.

When motorists in Missouri suffer injuries in car accidents that were deemed to have been caused by the negligence of others, claims for financial relief may be pursued. In cases such as this one in which the driver who caused the accident lost his life, personal injury claims may be filed against the estate of the deceased driver. Negligence will have to be established before the court can find financial liability has been established. That will allow adjudication of documented claims for financial and emotional damages for the purpose of monetary judgments.
