Some say that streets are a place for vehicles. But what about all the pedestrians who need to cross the street safely? In Missouri, at night or in the day, pedestrian accidents are a potential risk when crossing busy streets, even when a walker has looked both ways and the coast seems clear.
On June 28 at about 2:30 a.m., a 50-year-old man was crossing the road near Busch Stadium in St. Louis when he was struck by a vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run accident. Witnesses say that it was a speeding black Mercedes that hit him. The man was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition immediately following the hit-and-run. Days later, he died because of injuries suffered in the accident.
Authorities have charged an 18-year-old male with involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of the accident with a cash only bond set at $100,000. He apparently admitted to driving the Mercedes at speeds of 80-90 mph at the time of the accident. At first, police had arrested a 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle because the other two teens lied to police, telling them that she had been the one driving. Both the driver and his 17-year-old girlfriend are being charged for making the initial false report.
Family members that are left with the loss of a loved one in pedestrian accidents are faced with tough decisions. Emotional and financial burdens associated with the loss of a family member can be exhausting. Seeking legal advice and a potential successful lawsuit in pedestrian accident cases in Missouri can help the remaining family members deal with their loss.
