Authorities believe that a blown tire was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 Wednesday morning. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that the wreck occurred shortly after 7:15 on northbound I-35 a few miles south of Cameron, Missouri. Two young men were traveling in a 1988 Chevy when the tire gave way.

Authorities say that the 21-year-old Olathe, Kansas man driving the Chevrolet lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered off toward the east shoulder and rolled over, returning to its wheels before coming to a stop on the side of the interstate.

The driver and his 20-year-old passenger suffered undisclosed personal injuries in the rollover crash. The two traffic accident victims were taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center.

Tire failure can lead to serious accidents involving any type of vehicle. The tires on a motor vehicle are literally where the rubber meets the road, and the sudden loss of air pressure can lead to serious harms. Car accidents caused by a blown tire on an interstate or highway often lead to rollover accidents.

Obviously, the cause of a blow out is not a one size fits all analysis. Old, bald tires may fail, road hazards or debris may actually injure the tire, leading to an immediate, or delayed blow out. Treads can separate, causing safety issues. There are many events that may lead to tire failure.

However, an improperly designed tire, one that was improperly manufactured, or a tire that has been negligently installed may fail due to safety hazards created by the product defect or installation issues.
